First published in a collection of Gogol's "Arabesque" in 1835 GS subtitle "Shreds of Diary of a Madman." He wrote a novel in the 1833-1834 biennium. "Diary of a Madman" should be put on a par with an incomplete conception of Gogol, his comedy "Vladimir 3rd degree" about an official-ambitious and careerist dreams of the order. According to drafts and stories of contemporaries about the plot of the play, the hero of comedy as a result of cheating officials are unsuccessful, and he was going mad, imagining himself Vladimir 3rd degree. Apparently, after the failure of a comedy, not a complete, mainly for censorship reasons, its main themes and characters in the story went.
